LEBSF revenues are derived from a portion of watercraft license taxes paid by boaters at the time boats are registered. These funds will accrue during the fiscal year and will be distributed in the beginning of the following fiscal year. LEBSF funds are allocated by the Arizona Outdoor Recreation Coordinating Commission and subsequently administered by the Arizona State Parks Board through the Arizona State Parks (ASP) Grants Section. Slightly over $1 Million is available yearly, to the eight eligible counties.
Eligible Applicants and Resources
County Boards of Supervisors are eligible for LEBSF funds for the purpose of supporting boating law enforcement and safety activities.
Matching Requirement
A match is not required for this program. Grant requests will not be solicited; as funds will be allocated based on the approved percentages. The approved allocation percentages are based on law enforcement salaries and the Arizona Watercraft Survey data. To retain eligibility to receive funds, Counties must submit an annual application to State Parks.
Examples of Eligible Activities
LEBSF monies may be used for boating law enforcement personnel and/or equipment needs. Eligible equipment shall include only items to make a patrol boat minimally operational, such as the boat, trailer, motor, radios, lights, and first-aid equipment. This may include replacement items on existing boats.
Grant Cycle
The LEBSF grant cycle is annual, with applications due to the Arizona State Parks Grants Section on the first business day of December.
