The Governor's Archaeology Advisory Commission is sponsoring its 22nd annual "Awards in Public Archaeology." The Commission is a statutory board that advises the State Historic Preservation Officer on issues of relevance to Arizona archaeology. The Awards are presented to individuals, organizations, and/or programs that have significantly contributed to the protection and preservation of, and education about, Arizona's non-renewable archaeological resources. The Arizona Preservation Foundation (APF), Arizona State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), Arizona Main Street Program, and the City of Nogales invite you to join them at the 6th Annual Historic Preservation Partnership Conference. This year’s conference, whose theme is “Preservation on the Line,” is being held at the Esplendor Resort in Rio Rico, June 12-14, 2008. The Goal of the Conference is to bring together preservationists from around the state to exchange ideas and success stories, to share perspectives and solutions to preservation issues and to foster a sense of cooperation between the diverse Arizona preservation community.
One of the highlights of this year's conference will be an day-and-a-half long ADOBE WORKSHOP! Jim Garrison, the State Historic Preservation Officer and David Yubeta, Tumacacori National Historic Park, two of Arizona's adobe experts will impart to you all the ins and out of adobe, as well as a hands-on adobe experience at Tumacacori. The State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO)
The State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), a division of Arizona State Parks, is responsible for the identification, evaluation, and protection of Arizona's prehistoric and historic cultural resources. The SHPO staff represents various areas of expertise, including history, prehistoric and historic archaeology, historical architecture, and grants management. The programs and services provided by this staff are diverse and meet a range of needs within the public and private sectors of Arizona.
